American Journal of Archaeology

The American Journal of Archaeology is the academic/professional journal of the Archaeological Institute of America.

The December 2024 launch includes a beautiful new design and functionality. We also implemented management systems for the books and exhibition lists to make maintenance a breeze.

Castle Builder Design began managing the AJA website in 2007. We converted it from a basic, outdated system to Drupal in 2011 and recently migrated it to WordPress to bring it in line with other AIA websites. We provided one-on-one training for the editors in using both Drupal and WordPress.

We continue to post online content and design and distribute the journal’s email newsletter, the AJA e-Update.

“Amélie, Chris, and Muhammad did excellent work on our 2024 migration to WordPress, the design refresh, and the addition of some new features. I remain so impressed with how the Castle Builder team was able to take my general ideas about what I wanted the end result to be and create something exactly right. Amélie is a quick and clear communicator, and she leveraged her deep understanding of all the intricacies and history of the AJA website to keep the project running smoothly and exactly on time. We are very glad to be working with Amélie and the Castle Builder team!” – Meg Sneeringer, Managing Editor

“I worked with Amélie for more than 10 years while director of publishing for the American Journal of Archaeology.  She was instrumental in helping us get our website off the ground and was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful at every turn. She swiftly incorporated any necessary changes to content, and site updates were regularly applied and communicated.  Amélie also offered to take on other, crucial behind-the-scenes taskings for our electronic distribution partner.  I can’t thank her enough and highly recommend her team at Castle Builder.” – Madeleine Donachie, Director of Publishing
