Google is changing its algorithm on April 21. While there is no way to know exactly what Google has up its sleeves before a release, we know this one will have a mobile focus.
The bottom line is: You must be mobile friendly to get ranked well for mobile search (ie. searches from mobile devices). If your website is not responsive—and it might not be if it was designed more than a year or so ago—now is the time to think redesign.
From Google:
Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.
